The visual difference between Alumawood non-insulated and insulated patio cover roofs mainly comes down to the panel thickness, ceiling style, and overall finish. Non-insulated roofs use single-layer aluminum panels with visible structural grooves or “channels,” typically spaced about 3 inches apart, which creates a look similar to traditional wood planks. In contrast, insulated roofs are built with a foam core sandwiched between aluminum layers, resulting in a thicker, more solid panel that usually features wider 6–8 inch plank-style sections and a smoother, more finished ceiling appearance.
Visually, insulated covers tend to look flatter, cleaner, and more modern, especially from underneath, while non-insulated covers have a more textured, ribbed look that mimics individual boards. From above, insulated panels also appear more uniform and solid, whereas non-insulated panels can show more definition from the channel structure.
In short, insulated roofs look thicker and more finished, while non-insulated roofs look lighter, more segmented, and more like traditional slatted construction—even though both use the same Alumawood material and color finishes.
